Traveling is like flirting with life. It’s like saying, ‘I would stay and love you, but I have to go.’
Lisa St Aubin de Terán, English Novelist
As I am writing this, I have exactly one week until I leave for Europe. With that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to write my first blog on why I decided to travel to London for the spring semester.
To start, travel is & always has been one of my passions. The first time I visited London was during my senior year of high school where I spent a week in the lively city. During my visit there, I felt this sense of attraction, & I vowed that I would come back someday. Now two years later, I have decided to follow through with this goal.
When I was seventeen years old, I thought my return to London would be through a study abroad program; however, I chose a different path instead. Rather than studying abroad, I researched many student internship programs & finally found one called Global Experiences. This program, GE, matches college students to internships around the world. I applied & interviewed with them as well as the company in London they matched me with — Zayo Group. I’m extremely privileged to spend the next three months living out my dreams as a corporate development & strategy intern at Zayo. I look forward to the challenges, the lessons, & the experiences that await me. Thank you to all of those who have supported me in this venture: my parents, my family, my friends, my professors.
Lastly, my aim is to make these blogs engaging, yet brief updates. The reason is because of the phrase Carpe Diem, which means Seize the Day in Latin. Each memory is meant to be lived in the moment, not constantly staring at a computer or phone screen. So here I go, on this solo trip, in search of life & all it has to offer.
